League of Legends is a game that has taken the world by storm, and with it came memes. The most popular ones are those about LPL teams – which are hilarious, to say the least.
As a LPL native fan, if I introduce some LPL memes by teams, I wanna know how many people here will be intrested.
This is my first post on Reddit. Our memes produced on forums are so funny, it’s a shame they can’t spread.
Okay, I’ll make a note of it in this post. I began observing LOL games in 2012, and the following information is based on my own experiences.
WE: Let’s start with WE since it’s one of the two oldest teams in CN, as well as the first extremely popular team. (However, in worlds like CJ in OGN, this isn’t a positive thing)
- “Six billion dollars” Six billion is a mocking moniker given to WE supporters by Kobe Bryant’s followers. At the time, Kobe was very famous in China, and other admirers claimed that the country had a population of 6 billion people (there were about 6 billion people in 2000s). Then WE had a lot of fans, so we simply referred to them in the same manner. Next year, we’ll refer to OMG fans as “5.9billion.”
- “resist stress” is a phrase that means “do not succumb to It’s WE’s most popular meme, and it’s also the name of the largest lol gaming forum in China. We usually assigned Caomei a sand bag position in the Caomei/Clearlove/Misaya/Weixiao/fzzf squad, and supporters dubbed it “resist stress,” while detractors believed Caomei was a troll. Then they established a new tieba (forum) called “resist stress” to bash WE.
- “fight until you die, then leave tonight” It is an idiom that I am unable to interpret. After WE failed to qualify for Worlds in 2013, Clealove felt Caomei and Misaya were too terrible, so he wanted to join another team. However, he was still under contract, so he uttered those things to other players and EDG was born. According to reports, the purchase was unlawful, and Clearlove was branded a traitor.
- Okay, it’s a Chinese national development plan called the “five-year plan.” We also trash it since WE only made it to the worlds in 2012 and 2017. We also predict that WE will win the global championship in S13 since S13 is an SB fan (idiot in Chinese).
- “Beishang the 4th uncle” comes from Ning and Tian, who started trolling quickly after receiving FMVP. We said they were too old to play, so we called them the 1st and 2nd uncles, respectively. And we supporters refer to Beishang as the “fourth uncle” since after a period of good performance, they were defeated 1-12 in the playoffs.
IG: IG is another of the oldest teams; in fact, it has had a superior guards in for nearly as long as WE, but before to 2018, IG was regarded as a clown. After 2018, it regained its position as one of the two most popular teams ( another is RNG)
- “The son of a dog” When a WE fan stated in a trashing WE forum, “I’ll fuck you dogs son if you trash WE again,” we started calling IG fans “dogs son.”
- “443” is IG’s most famous meme; in a game in 2015, Kid (IG’s ADC) produced 443 damages, hitting three times on opponent roles in total. Kid contributed to “dog’s son” with the manner he played when Vayne fought Uzi in that game. And Kitties (iG’s support) already caused 556 damages in another game, earning them the nickname “999.”
- “National Day of Surrender” IG was crushed and surrendered on October 1, 2015 (Chinese National Day). In reality, there were much too many memes in the globe in 2015.
- “Rookie tries his hardest, but Theshy is going to annihilate them all.” In 2020, IG suffered when Jackeylove departed. However, since Rookie and Theshy have too many supporters, the remarks mostly target the other three players. Even if Theshy isn’t playing well, they still say “Rookie tries his best and Theshy has no issue,” and even if Theshy isn’t playing, they still say “If he were Theshy, he would kill them all.” Finally, Rookie begins trolling this year.
EDG: The big guy has arrived! EDG is my nastiest squad, and clearlove is my nastiest player (maybe you like him because of the same reason hahaha). EDG is also the team with the most memes, as well as the most LPL championships and world championship experience.
- “4396” In fact, 4396 is perhaps China’s most popular number meme. When Wordls faced ROX in 2016, Clearlove caused 4396 damage in a single game, although the statistic isn’t significant. Claerlove was ranked as the first jug in the worlds by RIOT, yet he had a very poor performance throughout the tournaments. 4396 is the pinnacle of his universes.
- “In a best-of-five match, we lost 0-4.” In the 2015 World Championships, EDG faced Fnatic and had a problem with Gragas, so they restarted the game. However, in that unfinished game, EDG had early game picks but fell behind and would have barely won if the game had continued. We previously said that they lost an 0-4 in bo5, and that Clearlove’s performance in that tournament was no better than in 2016, and that it was also the start of CN supporters trashing him.
