Warner Bros. has published a video for The Matrix Resurrections, which will need you to select a pill once again. The Matrix Resurrections is a sequel to the famous 1999 science fiction film The Matrix and its two less-than-legendary sequels. Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Ann Moss reprise their roles as Neo and Trinity, once again navigating the vast computer simulation known as the Matrix (I assume; the plot synopsis is a bunch of gobbledygook, and the trailer gives little away). Jada Pinkett Smith reprises her role as Niobe, who we’ll pretend is significant. Neil Patrick Harris, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Lambert Wilson, Christina Ricci, Jessica Henwick, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and others will appear with them. The Matrix Resurrections, directed by Lana Wachowski, will be released in cinemas and on HBO Max on December 22, 2021. Here’s the trailer for The Matrix Resurrections:

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Initially, I was uninterested in this film. I like The Matrix, but I believe it should have been a single picture; it finished on a great note, and the sequels seemed unnecessary, essentially destroying the conclusion to justify their existence. Despite this, The Matrix: Revolutions had a pretty conclusive ending for the narrative, as well as for Neo and Trinity. I’m not sure what more to say. The Matrix Resurrections video, on the other hand, has piqued my curiosity in learning more. One reason is the mystery, which was a major part of what sold the original film (the slogan “What is the Matrix?” was brilliant); I have no clue what’s going on, but there are indications that paint broad strokes. Neo and Trinity seem to have been revived in the Matrix, but they have no recollection of who they were. Neo has resurrected the moniker “Thomas Anderson” and is visiting a psychiatrist while taking a good dosage of blue pills. (An early guess: Neil Patrick Harris works for the machines and feeds him blue tablets to keep him under control.) But he appears to experience glimpses of recollections now and again, including one in which he transforms into Agent Smith. Hugo Weaving isn’t mentioned as a member of the picture, but he was clearly in that trailer, which excites me more than almost anything else; Smith is one of the greatest sci-fi villains of all time, and they’d be foolish not to attempt to resurrect him. And it makes sense if he does play a bigger part; given how Neo died, it’s reasonable to think that if he returns, he’ll bring Smith with him.

In reality, the Matrix Resurrections trailer has a lot of aspects from the previous films. A succession of cyberpunk characters gradually reveal the truth to Neo; a younger version of Morpheus calls him back to the battle; Neo trains with Morpheus; some of the settings seem to be almost similar; the Oracle appears; and there are many Alice in Wonderland allusions. I’m wondering whether this implies Neo is repeating The Matrix events as an older and wiser version of himself, with the key being remembering that he’s already done it. If that’s the case, they’re walking a thin line; it might be an exciting new approach to reboot the brand, or it could simply seem like a remake disguised. The amazing spectacular effects are also back, and they seem to be getting better. Some of those images were amazing, which is enough to convince me to attend it in a cinema — ideally IMAX – rather than watching it on HBO at home. I’m wondering whether Neo’s new appearance, which seems to be “Keanu Reeves wandered over from the John Wick set,” has a purpose. It reminds me of how Jeff Bridges in Tron: Legacy basically portrayed a watered-down version of the Dude. I’m also curious whether Laurence Fishburne was unable to return, since I’d much prefer see him than that idiotic Doctor Manhattan from HBO’s terrible Watchmen series. Despite my reservations, I’m going to see this one; worst-case scenario, it’ll be another another sequel I’ll have to overlook.
