DMC has announced that the DeLorean EV will ultimately be shown on August 18. Fans of Back to the Future who anticipate it to appear like the original may be disappointed, as a teaser picture published today reveals that the electrified version will look much different from the DMC-12 that was marketed in the United States from 1981 to 1983. The boxy tail lights, which were one of the original’s most distinguishing characteristics, are gone, as is the wedge-like body, which seems to have been replaced with something that more closely resembles current sports car designs. The vehicle’s gull-wing doors will be retained, according to a teaser animation on the official DeLorean website.

WITH A TEASER IMAGE, DELOREAN ANNOUNCES A NEW REVEAL DATE (PR Newswire)
DeLorean Motor Company has set a new date for the unveiling of its electric car and given the first glimpse of it. The concept vehicle will now make its debut on Thursday, August 18 at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance’s renowned Awards Ramp.
Although the new electric vehicle will still be on exhibit on the Pebble Beach Concept Lawn on August 21, 2022, the long-awaited DeLorean revelation will take place three days earlier. “Excitement is building like the doors of our legendary sports car, and we’re showing the next generation prototype three days sooner than expected on the most renowned platform in the world at Pebble Beach,” stated Troy Beetz, CMO of DeLorean Motor Company Inc. Throughout Monterey Car Week, a series of activations and events exhibiting the DeLorean will reveal the vehicle’s history, present, and future. Along with the announcement, DeLorean will disclose the vehicle’s official name.
On Friday, DeLorean published a pixelated teaser of the first official photograph of the EV as they prepare to take the stage in August. After a weekend of conjecture, a three-quarter photo of the vehicle was released on Monday, revealing the concept car’s left shoulder and rear tail light.
The long-awaited concept automobile is the conclusion of DeLorean’s fresh conception of a contemporary icon and a 40-year partnership with acclaimed design firm Italdesign.
