4 Perfect Ways to Get WiFi in the Entire House

Since WiFi started gaining popularity around two decades ago, it has become the common standard to connect to the internet, especially for smartphones with WiFi capability. However, one huge drawback of using WiFi is that the signal might not reach different parts of the house which can create dead zones.

In this article, we’ll talk about some of the ways you can get WiFi in your entire house.

Reposition the Router

Add a WiFi Extender

Use Powerline Adapters

Reposition the Router

WiFi routers can be finicky. Even small adjustments can cause disruptions or disconnections. To ensure that you get a connection everywhere in the house, it’s important to find the correct placement for the router.

We suggest placing your router somewhere in the middle of the house and a higher location like on top of a cupboard or a wall.

One of our team members uses Spectrum internet and they often lost connection even if they were in an adjacent room. After calling the Spectrum customer service number, they realized that their router was placed in a cupboard which caused most of the signals to be blocked out.

Try making sure that the router isn’t placed near any electronics that might cause interference with the signal such as cordless phones, ovens, Bluetooth devices, or refrigerators.

Add a WiFi Extender

WiFi extenders, also known as boosters and repeaters can be used to increase the range of an existing router by capturing the signals from the router, amplifying them, and rebroadcasting them.

A lot of people wonder if they work properly. Our team extensively tested a few extenders in their houses and we found that they are great for boosting the WiFi signals. However, they aren’t the best option to use if you need fast WiFi speeds.

These boosters usually have two antennae. One of them is used to receive the wireless signal whereas the other half is used to transmit a new signal.

If you only use your home WiFi for general browsing and streaming, you shouldn’t notice a lot of difference with a booster. However, we wouldn’t recommend using a booster if you’re a gamer or stream high-definition movies.

Pro Tip: If you have an old router lying around, try checking its web interface to see if it has the option to extend WiFi signals.

Use Powerline Adapters

Although powerline adapters are being phased out, they still are a great option to use for people who are looking for a cheap way to extend WiFi signals.

Powerline can have an advantage over other solutions if you don’t have dedicated wiring for the internet, as it uses the existing powerlines to send data. However, you won’t get amazing speeds or a very stable connection as powerlines are not designed to carry data. These adapters usually don’t work across breakers.

So, using them to extend WiFi is only recommended if you want WiFi in an area you don’t go to often or you don’t need blazing-fast speeds but want a cheap way to extend your WiFi.

Installing a WiFi Mesh Kit

The main problem with having one router is that you’re limited on where to put it. If it sits in one corner of the house, chances are that you’re going to get a weak signal in other areas, which is why we recommended putting it in the middle of the house.

However, if you want a WiFi system that’s fast and provides a stable signal everywhere in the house, you’re going to have to shell out some extra bucks and get a WiFi mesh kit.

What it does is create multiple WiFi points in different parts of your house which not only provide more coverage than a single router but also an even, stable signal in your entire house.

When you get a WiFi mesh kit, all you have to do is connect one of the routers from the kit to a spare Ethernet port on your main router. The system will then create a new network to which all your gadgets can connect to.

This, by far, is the best way to get WiFi in the entire house.

Wrapping Up

Although WiFi is almost always slower than using a wired connection, the benefits it provides outweigh its disadvantages which is why it has become one of the best ways to connect to the internet.

If you live in a big home or one with multiple floors, we recommend getting a WiFi mesh as you only need to set it up once and stop worrying about not being able to get WiFi in different parts of your house.
