Introduction

EVGA is a firm that was created in 1999 and is recognized for its high-performance video cards, motherboards, and other computer components in the DIY computer sector. EVGA has recently extended its product portfolio to include power supplies, which naturally piques our attention today. EVGA currently offers a several power supply lines, including the N1 series.

We bought this power supply in retail at a local shop when it was on sale for today’s review. We’re looking at the EVGA 750 N1 750W Power Supply P/N 100-N1-0750-L1, which is the N1 series’ biggest capacity unit. It also comes in 650W and 550W capacities, but we’ll be looking at the highest-rated one today. This is an entry-level power supply, having an MSRP of $69.99 on EVGA’s website. It’s made in collaboration with HEC.

HEC Group (Heirochi Electric Corporation) AKA Compucase Enterprise CO LTD was formed in 1979 and is one of the earliest consumer SMPS firms. HEC started making SMPS in 1997, after moving into case manufacture in 1989. HEC is now one of the leading producers of SMPS, with devices sold under the HEC, CompuCase, and Cougar brands, all of which are retail divisions of HEC. HEC has formerly provided power supply to Antec, Thermaltake, Xigmatek, and other companies in addition to its own brands. HEC has always been renowned for its entry-level to mid-level goods, but with the introduction of some of its newest Cougar lines, it has gone into the high-end enthusiast arena.

N1 750 EVGA

The N1 750 EVGA is the second power supply we have seen from EVGA here, we have previously reviewed the EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G5 750W Power Supply with high praise, earning our Gold Award. This particular unit we are reviewing today is fitting into what is the entry-level segment when it comes to capacity, as it clocks in at 750W and placement in EVGA’s product stack.

As a result, this unit will be up against a lot of competition, which is excellent for customers but challenging for EVGA and everyone else competing in this space. EVGA, on the other hand, has had a string of misfires with their power supply prior to this one. As the N1 750 prepares to fight it out today, there is some pedigree to rely back on. But, before we go too far ahead of ourselves, here’s what EVGA has to say about this device:

The EVGA 750W power supply is a wonderful low-cost option for those on a budget. Supporting 59A on a single +12V rail opens up additional possibilities without reducing component needs. The EVGA 750W has all of the necessary connectors and safeguards for a basic system setup. The EVGA 750W power supply will be a wonderful asset for your next budget build, with a standard 2-year guarantee and super silent fan design.

This power supply, according to EVGA, offers a “Quiet and Intelligent Auto Fan for near-silent operation.” The following are built-in safeguards: OVP (Over Voltage Protection), OCP (Over Current Protection), OPP (Over Power Protection), SCP (Short Circuit Protection), and OTP (Over Temperature Protection) are all heavy-duty safeguards (Over Temperature Protection).

Let’s move on now and see what we can expect when a user purchases the N1 750 EVGA power supply in retail in terms of documentation, accessories, cable count, rail layout, output characteristics, and general build quality.

The N1 750 EVGA packaging is interesting in that it is different from what we saw with the SuperNOVA 750 G5. The front of the package is bare of information save for the picture of the unit’s fan grill. The rear of the packaging has the power label (reproduced below), and the connector count (reproduced below). On top of that, we get some advertising. We are going to skip most of it for a moment and hone in on a particular little gem gem.

N1 750 EVGA Power Switch Placement

“Well positioned On/Off Switch,” according to the packaging. Well, hot diggity, I was scared for a second that the On/Off switch might be put incorrectly. Nothing is worse than a power supply with an On/Off switch on the front instead of the back, as with every other power supply. To come up with “Well positioned On/Off Switch” as one of your advertising features, you must have very little nice to say about your product. Perhaps the fact that this item comes with a two-year guarantee is the reason for promoting the “Well positioned On/Off Switch”! Over the warranty, I’d choose that well-placed power switch any day!

The N1 750 EVGA is advertised as being a single 12v rail power supply with a capacity up to 59A (or ~94% of the unit’s capacity) if necessary. The 5v and 3.3v rails have a capacity of 24A and 20A each respectively along with a combined capacity of 150W. Combined with these outputs, we find that this unit has 2 PCIe connectors, 9 SATA connectors, and 3 Molex connectors. Side note, both PCIe connectors are on the same cable.

Once we open the N1 750 EVGA packaging we find the power supply, mounting screws, the power cord, and the user manual. The user manual covers the 550W, 650W, and 750W models over 41 pages in 7 languages. The documentation contains the installation instructions, cable counts, and general power specifications.
